Veterans honored county-wide
Area veterans were honored at celebrations throughout the county last week, with churches and schools ceremoniously recognizing the men and women who have served to de- fend our nation’s freedom.
Musical tributes included Taps, performed here by BHS Band Director Todd Baker, as well as a medley of the service anthems. Students at Buffalo High School had prepared a special program for their honored guests which included the explanation of the flag-folding ceremony and a musical tribute to the various branches of the Armed Forces by the Bison Band. Veterans Services Officer Gary Maples gave a presentation and WWII veteran Raymond Phillips of Buffalo shared his memories of the D-Day Invasion at Normangee. The World War II veterans in attendance were given special tribute and were presented with flags. Similar programs were offered across Leon County. Oakwood Schools hosted a breakfast for veterans (SEE page 2A). Centerville ISD students honored their veterans with a program at the high school auditorium, and Leon ISD’s elementary kids presented a musical tribute as veterans paraded across the stage.
BHS students gave their full attention to the guest speakers.
