Mrs. Bessie Mae is 91!
      For those of you out in St. Paul, you probably know Bessie Mae Johnson and her family. For those of you in Oakwood, you know her by her children, her grandkids, and her great-grandbabies. Some of her "greats" are still in school at Oakwood. There's Dominic Johnson, Janna Campbell, Bobbye Freeman, Saqqara Forte, and Jacquez Forte. Well, did you know she celebrated her 91st birthday this week?

Oakwood VFD holds BBQ
      The Oakwood Volunteer Fire Department held its annual BBQ fundraiser on Saturday. According to Sheri Smith who coordinates the calls, this is the only fundraiser they do each year. It is extremely important that this fundraiser go well. And it did. The crowd started rolling in at 11:00 and kept on coming. The best anyone can guesstimate, they fed over 200 people.

Feathers fly and leaves fall at Turkey Shoot
      Members of the LSCC always fret, just a little, about the weather on the day of the annual turkey shoot. Not to worry, the day could not have been more perfect. Younguns’ no older than 6 or 7 and senior in their 80s had an equal share of fun as the Winifred Horn family directed the activities.

NORTH CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH
      The Glass family gave a singing service today and thrilled everyone present. They have been here before but Sammy Glass’s Mother and his sister and her family are the Telestials and have come here often. Next Sunday there will be an annual meeting of the ministerial alliance for the evening service. There will be finger food after the service.

NJHS adds 19 new members
      The Buffalo Junior High chapter of the National Junior Honor Society inducted 19 new members and installed officers on Monday evening, November 9th. County voters not-so-lenient --
Constitutional Amendment Propositions all pass state-wide
      Texas voters passed all eleven propositions to amend the Texas Constitution on Election Day, November 3. Here in Leon County, however, voters were not so generous. Locally, Propositions #1, #3, #4, #5 and #6 failed.
