BHS’ 2009 volleyball season comes to an End
Kelsey Canady puts up a block against New Waverly.
BHS’ volleyball season wrapped up last Tuesday night when the Lady Bison played in New Waverly. The Lady Bison went down in a four set match to the playoff bound Lady Bulldogs. Centerville will represent 21AA as the first seed. Anderson- Shiro and New Waverly tied for second, but the Lady Owls of Anderson- Shiro won the playoff Saturday to earn the second seed. New Waverly will go into the playoffs as the third seed.
Twelve seniors took the floor to start the match Tuesday night as the regular season wound down. Buffalo jumped out to a 6-1 lead, forcing New Waverly’s coach to call a time out. The set was close all the way, but the Lady Bison claimed the win 25-23. The Lady Bulldogs bounced back to win 14-25, 19-25 in the middle sets. The fourth set was epic, but a couple of questionable calls turned the tide in the favor of the Bulldogs. The Lady Bison came up short 22-25.

Freshman Raven Lott bumps the ball for the JV Lady Bison.
“The girls played their hearts out,” Coach Lori Shaw said. “Right when we were pulling away in the fourth set, a New Waverly player hit the ball twice, but the officials did not notice. Then we were called for an under the net violation that gave the Lady Bulldogs the chance to win the match. Our girls gave what they had to give, and it is pointless to ask for more than that.”
The junior varsity Lady Bison outlasted New Waverly for a 25-19, 25-23 win to end their season.
Raven Lott led the team in serving with nine points. Tionna Adams served for six points. Reagan Read and Heather Sigert served for four and three points, respectively. Laken McCabe and Courtney Dudley each served for two. Emily Grissett served for one point. Haley Ellison, Read and Grissett provided a strong offensive at the net while Lott, Sigert and Hannah Wilson were strong on defense.

“We are going to miss our seniors,” Coach Shaw said, “but we have players at the younger levels who have improved greatly this season. I am confident that they will work this spring and summer to be ready to fill the varsity roster next season.”
