Oakwood ISD schools held Open House on Thursday night. There was a good turn out. Parents and students met in the cafeteria for a welcoming speech made by Superintendent Richard Scoggin. Scoggin reminded parents that early voting for the bond election was going on and that the poll box would be open until 8:00 for their convenience. Then they were treated to a performance by some of the high school’s Theater Arts students. Their version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was performed by senior Lisa Stevens as Snow White/narrator, sophomore Tori Duck as the wicked stepmother, junior Damine Purvis as the handsome prince, and senior Angela Johnson, sophomore Sara Collins, and sophomore Christina Hudson as three of the seven dwarfs (the other four dwarfs were out sick). After the performance, everyone was released to go out to the classrooms.
Out in the classrooms, parents were able to see what students have been working on and speak one-on-one with teachers. The younger elementary classes decorated Halloween cookies. The 6th graders showed off their dissected frogs. Once parents and students had toured the facilities and met with the teachers, they were invited to the cafeteria for ice cream and door prizes.
