China will re-open market for U.S. pork
      AUSTIN — Texas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples today applauded the news that Texas pork producers will soon regain access to an important international trade market. U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack recently announced that China intends to re-open its market to U.S. pork and live swine.

Oakwood flips over 4-H Omelet Supper
      According to Becky Cockrell, who was in charge of the event, this year's 4-H kids served about 150 people at the annual Omelet Supper on Thursday night. The High School kids, assisted by the Jr. High, made the omelets while the Elementary kids served drinks and dessert and helped bus the tables. Names were drawn for door prizes too.

County 4-H’ers place at Heart of Texas Fair
      Last week two of our Leon County 4-H members participated in the Heart of Texas Fair in Waco, TX. Andy Johnson placed 2nd in Showmanship and 2nd in his class with his Brahman heifer. Tobe Johnson placed 2nd in his classes with his Santa Gertrudis heifer.

Dixion and Neyland win hay show
      The Annual Leon County Hay Show was held on Monday, October 26, 2009 at the Buffalo Civic Center. The Leon County Beef and Forage Committee jointly with the Freestone County Beef and Forage Committee and Texas Agrilife Extension Service hosted the Hay Show this year. The program started with an Agriculture Trade Show at 5:00 pm and follow with a meal which started at 6:00 pm.

TDA Market Recap October 26, 2009
     AUSTIN – (Oct. 26, 2009) For the week ending Oct. 24, 2009, feeder cattle prices at Texas auctions were $1 to $4 higher per hundredweight on offerings weighing fewer than 600 pounds, and steady to $2 higher on heavier weights. Higher fed cattle prices and improved pasture conditions contributed to the increase. Fed cattle prices were $2.50 to $3 higher.
