Our veterans need your help. Veterans from Leon and surrounding counties visit their primary doctors at the VA clinic located in Palestine. For specialists, treatment or surgery, they must travel to the VA hospitals located in Waco or Temple. Many Vets are no longer able to drive or cannot afford to drive this distance. They are transported by a van furnished by the Disabled American Veterans Association and driven by volunteers.
This van runs daily, Monday through Friday, from the clinic in Palestine, making stops in Buffalo and/or Fairfield to pick up passengers traveling to the VA Hospitals. It's a 287 mile round trip.
Because of the mileage, wear and tear, etc., this van must be replaced every two years. It's that time again, a new van is needed. Buffalo resident and volunteer, Joyce Stark is the District 3 Senior Vice Commander of the DAV Auxiliary as well as a volunteer driver. She has been collecting donations for the van at The Horse's Mouth Bookstore for several months. THM awarded her a $50.00 check from a portion of the proceeds of their book sale during the Buffalo Stampede.
Donations are still being accepted as $5,000.00 is still needed. Visit THM and drop your change into the DAV Donation Jar.
