The Cougars hosted Teague on October 23rd on a special night recognizing the seniors on the team, Kendle Charlton, Jentry Clary, and Elissa Downey. The volleyball team and the football team were involved with a special benefit to help a Leon ISD employee Leslie Pate, who is battling cancer. The theme for the night was “Pack the Place Pink”. Any fan wearing pink to the volleyball game or football game was admitted free. A silent cake auction was held also. Most of the fans and students showed up in pink to show their support for Ms. Pate and the volleyball team and football team wore pink to show their dedication to this beloved educator. Ms. Pate served as the honorary person to serve and start the match. She served over the net with no problem amid a loud ovation from the fans.
The game itself was more of the same for the opponents of the Cougars. The Cougars dominated all three games and won decisively 25-14, 25-12, and 25-8.
Stats for the game: Jentry Clary 3 digs, 1 kill, 2 assists, 1 ace; Kendle Charlton 3 digs; Sharon Coulter 7 digs; Amy Holt 6 kills, 3 blocks, 4 aces; Kori Charlton 8 kills; Elissa Downey 4 kills, 2 blocks, 4 aces; Megan Williamson 1 kill, 2 assists; Allison Carrigan 7 kills, 2 blocks, 2 assists, 2 aces; Chelby Stanford 3 kills, 19 assists, 2 aces
The junior varsity also won 25-20 and 26-24. The 7th and 8th grade teams play Rosebud-Lott and each team won. The 7th grade “B” team won 25-9 and 25-12. The 7th grade “A” team won 25-9 and 25-12. The 8th grade “B” team won 25-6 and the “A” team won 25-17. Apparently the talent coming up through the lower grades will continue the winning tradition for the Cougars as they advance to high school.
The Cougars have a warm-up game on October 31st against an undetermined opponent before they enter the playoffs on November 2nd and 3rd.
