8th graders roll on, dominate Tigers 32-0
Logan Jones pulls down an interception during the 8th grade contest.
The junior high Bison and Tigers met in one game on Thursday afternoon at Centerville, and the BJHS eighth graders came away with another big win to keep a perfect season going.
Kyle Reed was at the helm at quarterback for the Bison and he carried on the opening touchdown with 2:51 left in the first quarter. Logan Jones punched in the PAT for an 8-0 Buffalo lead.
Centerville QB Tyler Brown leaned heavily on Joe Long and Amos Fields as the Tigers charged up the field but the Bison defense, led by Adam Simpson, Jacob Deborde and #5, would not give up. The drive ended with an incomplete pass in the endzone, and BJHS took over on their own 6-yard-line.
Jones proved to be a slippery target for the Tiger defenders, and he repeatedly found openings and picked up good yardage. Long managed to stop him once with a touchdown-saving tackle, but it only delayed the Bison score. Simpson carried the ball in from the 12-yardline and Jones added two points with :27 left in the half. Switching to defense, Jones picked off a Tiger pass just seconds later, and the Bison took a 16-0 lead into the break.

Seventh grader Paul Mata got a good return on the 3rd quarter kickoff and the Bison were rolling again. Read, on the keeper, broke several tackles for a good gain before being brought down by Noah Bank. The Bison fumbled near the end zone, however, and Centerville recovered. The Tigers returned the favor a couple of plays later, and Trent Martin recovered for BJHS. That set up the Bison's third touchdown which came on a 23- yard end around run by Jones. Simpson carried for the PAT, and BHS led by 24.
Long and Blake Payne anchored the Tigers' next drive. A pass from Brown to Blake Henley moved them into Bison Territory, but when the Tigers went to the air again Jones was ready with another pick-off and a 40-yard return at the end of the third quarter. Two plays later the Bison scored on a 2-yard dive by Martin. The two-point PAT increased the Bison advantage to the final score, 32-0.
The Bison next face Trinity at Brewer Field on Thursday, October-29 and wrap up at New Waverly on November 5.
