The Buffalo Bison and Centerville Tigers met in a district matchup on October 23rd, each sporting 1-1 district records and both coming off of big wins the previous week. Everyone expected an exciting game, and the contest proved to be just that. Turnovers proved to be the difference in the game, and Buffalo did not have any. More ... Onalaska The Lady Bison spent more time on the bus going to and from Onalaska than it took for the Junior Varsity and Varsity squads to defeat the Lady Wildcats last Tuesday. The Junior Varsity cruised to a 25-10, 25-12 win in the first match. The Varsity wrapped up the evening with a 25-15, 23-25, 25-18, 25-19 victory. More ... Both Bison and Tigers fans found plenty to cheer about in the JV match-up on Thursday evening at CHS, but in the end it was Centerville with the most to cel- ebrate as the Tigers pulled off a comefrom behind win over the Bison. Following a short Senior Recognition ceremony honoring Tristan Brewer, Kaila Grissett, Erica Jones, Meredith Shaw, Brooke Trahan and Desiree Worthy, the Lady Bison took the floor for their last home match of the season last Friday. For six seniors, it marked the last home match of a successful high school career. More ... The junior high Bison and Tigers met in one game on Thursday afternoon at Centerville, and the BJHS eighth graders came away with another big win to keep a perfect season going. Kyle Reed was at the helm at quarterback for the Bison and he carried on the opening touchdown with 2:51 left in the first quarter. Logan Jones punched in the PAT for an 8-0 Buffalo lead. More ... The Centerville Lady Tigers defeated Groveton and Buffalo to clinch the district championship with a perfect 13-0 mark and a season record of 38-1. Their only loss was to Salado in an early season tournament game. More ... Dustin Brisher, grandson of Dudley and Gay Casey of Buffalo, was recently awarded a place on the Houston Golf Association’s “2009 First Team All H.G.A.” at the annual banquet held at the Redstone Golf Clubhouse in Humble, Texas. There were over two hundred boys 16-18 years old competing for one of ten places on this team. More ... Men’ s and women’s golf for October 21 and 22 was rained out this week. WGA did have the monthly meeting and the following were elected as the Nominating Committee: Gladys Watson, Chair Joan Henry Linda Hambrick Leonor Holland Paula Chicken Betty Von Bieberstein Nancy Verhines Paula Thomas More ... The Lady Cougars defeated Marlin on October 20th and Teague on October 23rd to wrap up the district championship with a game to be played against Hearne on October 27th. The Cougars currently have a season record of 36-3 and a perfect 9-0 mark in district. More ... The Leon Cougars remained in the playoff picture by beating Teague 19-0 on a beautiful fall evening on October 23rd. Both teams were sluggish in the first quarter and failed to put any points on the board. Chris Vasquez scored on a 14 yard pass from quarterback Kirby Watson and after Cason McCune booted the extra point and the Cougars led 7-0 with 6:09 left in the 2nd quarter. More ... After picking up the win at Apple Springs and then again at home against Lovelady, the Varsity Lady Panthers have secured second place in the district race. More ... The Oakwood Varsity Panther Football team traveled to Coolidge this week and showed the Yellow Jackets that they were not to be messed with. More ... According to Oakwood's Coach Tommy Tritz, too many errors cost the Panthers the game this week. More ... Early bird fans at the BHS enjoyed a special treat as a group of alumni followed through on a twenty-year-old request, opening a "time capsule" which had been sitting in the high school trophy case for two decades. Members of Deneice Winn's PAAT class (the 1988 version of today's Gifted and Talented program) had each contributed an item to be locked up in a small wooden chest. More ... |
