Accompanying Leon County was the Freestone County 4-H. The two counties were not in competition with each other so this gave a fair chance to both counties. The Food Challenge Teams performed in two heats. There were 11 teams per heat. The teams were only allowed a certain amount of ingredients and a box with a certain list of supplies used for cooking. They were given a recipe with a clue and had to figure out what they were supposed to prepare. They had 40 minutes to prepare the food, cook, put it in presentation form, and clean up their work area. After they were finished each team had to present their food to the judges. Awards were presented to 1st and 2nd place teams for Juniors and Seniors, and there was one Spirit Award for each county. The Spirit Award was based on how well the team worked together and how they presented themselves. The winner of the spirit awards went to Oakwood’s team The Red Hot Chili Peppers. In the Junior division, 5th place was the Sassy Saute’ers (Buffalo), 4th place was Habanera Hot shots (Centerville), 3rd place was Weird Creations (buffalo), 2nd place went to Cooking Camo Chicks (Centerville), and 1st place went to Oakwood’s Team the Black Olives. In the Senior division, Normangee’s Team won 2nd and Buffalo’s Team Redneck Roasters won 1st. In the Food Show, Kelcey Cockrell won 1st place for Leon County. Thank you to all participants and a special thank you to our Judges who were Clara Jones, JP Borah, Linn Birran, and Barbara Hankins.
