Jewett EEC attends NRG chili cookoff

By Michaelene Perry

The Jewett Extension Education Club along with friends or spouses met at the NRG Limestone power plant on Highway 39 as judges for their annual Chili Cook-Off. This is an annual fundraiser the employees have to boost funds for multiple charity needs in the community. This group provides donations to all the area food pantries and libraries, Christmas gifts for the needy and sponsors families during the holidays. They also have regular donations throughout the year for the needy in the community.

As judges, Jewett EE Club members Mamie Bell, Lynn Drake, Linda Kegerreis, Michaelene Perry and Jerri Rich along with Rodney Bell, Craig Kegerreis, Hank Snider and 4 judges from Westmoreland had our hands (and mouths) full with not only chili judging, but also beans and desserts. There were 8 chili, 5 beans and 10 dessert entries. It was truly a hard choice to give first place in each of those categories because all the entries were scrumptious. The Jewett EE Club was honored to be a part in this worthwhile community project.
