A building of Dick Scott Ford of Mexia was gutted by a fire that caused over $1.5 million in damage on Sunday evening. The burned out building housed a service shop and the dealership’s accounting departments.
The fire broke out around 9 p.m. Sunday at the 60-yearold dealership at 401 N. Sherman in Mexia. First crews on the scene reported that flames were shooting through the roof and the walls were already collapsing. Along with the Mexia Fire Department, Grosbeck, Wortham, Teague and Lake Mexia Fire Departments were called.
Six cars inside the building were destroyed and tow trucks pulled other vehicles away from the building and lot.
The dealership was already back to the business of selling cars early in the week.
The State Fire Marshal’s office will arrive on Tuesday to help investigate the cause of the fire.
