Junior High Panthers slip by the Trojans

Oakwood's Damiyne Durham picked up the first touchdown of the game and then passed the ball to Louis Collins for the extra point. Calvert got the next touchdown but were denied the extra point. Durham completed a pass to Dominic Johnson in the endzone for the next Oakwood TD. Johnson picked up the extra point as well. Durham put up a couple of really nice hits in the first quarter as did Jacques Forte. The score was 14-6 with Oakwood in the lead at the end of the first quarter.

Calvert picked up the first touchdown of the second quarter but not the extra point. The ball went to the Panthers. They fumbled and the Trojans recovered. Johnson and Forte were double trouble for that unlucky Trojan. The Trojans made a run for the endzone and Durham made the tackle. Score for the Trojans. No extra point. Collins caught a nice pass by Forte and scored the next touchdown for the Panthers. No extra point. Calvert countered with another touchdown and the extra point. Durham passed to Forte who picked up the TD. Johnson picked up the extra point. Calvert countered again but no extra point. The score at the half was 27 Oakwood, 32 Calvert.

Collins started the third quarter off with a really nice hit. Durham followed his lead with a sound hit of his own. Calvert tried to pass the ball but it was knocked down by Johnson. They took another run at the endzone only to get taken out by Johnson. One more attempt brought them the score. Durham denied them their extra point. The Panthers picked up the next TD and extra point. Calvert fumbled the ball and John Venable recovered it. Durham passed the ball to Forte for the TD and the extra point. Johnson put up a solid tackle causing Calvert to fumble again. Venable pounced on it for the recovery. Calvert retaliated with an interception. Collins took him down. Calvert got the TD on the next attempt and the extra point. Oakwood fumbled again and Calvert picked it up. The score was Oakwood 41, Calvert 45 at the end of the third quarter.

Forte picked up the first TD of the fourth quarter. No extra point. Calvert countered with the same. Durham got the next touchdown and the extra point off a pass from Forte. Calvert seemed to have a runaway play until William Barnett took him down at the ankles. On the next attempt, Durham stopped the runner in his tracks. With just seconds left in the game, Oakwood got the ball back, fumbled, and recovered the ball again. The buzzer went off. The Panthers took the win.
