Oakwood Council approves budget
Buffalo Junior High Principal Lacy Freeman
The City of Oakwood held its regularly scheduled council meeting this week. There was a very short agenda. The Council discussed and implemented an ordinance prohibiting the use of engine brakes on big trucks traveling through the Oakwood City limits. Both the City and Police Department 2009-2010 budgets were approved. The discussion on the smoke testing of the sewer lines had to be tabled until next month because the weather had prevent John Rusk from making this meeting.
Councilman Barry Olive gave a status report on the road repairs that have been going on over the last few months. Both the Council and the County felt that the safety of the children of Oakwood was the top priority. As of now, the "in town" school bus routes are complete. The other roads in town will now begin to get their makeovers.
Mayor Vicki Stroud wanted to discuss Christmas on the Corner. Several people have contacted her to volunteer to spearhead and to assist in this year's activities. Stacy Salguero, the City Secretary, will not be able to take on the event this year as she is preparing for the delivery of her baby. Mayor Stroud suggested that the City purchase a new Christmas tree and request that the Christmas Tree Farm come out to plant it so that it would be successful. Last year's tree, did not fare too well. A strong storm came through and uprooted it. The Council will be continuing to look into finding just the right person to head this event and will be contacting the Christmas Tree Farm about the new tree.
In closed session, City and Police Department personnel matters were discussed.
