Naked man flees Leon County in high speed chase

By Sherry Matney

Ubaldo Olvera Ubaldo Olvera It all started in early Sunday Morning when the Leon County Sheriff’s Department received a call that 31-yearold Ubaldo Olvera, of Palestine, was walking along the train tracks. Leon County Deputy Tomlinson responded and told Olvera that he could not walk on the railroad track. The man left without inci- dent.

Later Olvera was spotted in Marquez without any clothes or shoes. Again the sheriff’s department was called and this time Olvera escaped into some woods. Sheriff Jerry Wafefield said they withdrew from surveillance hoping Olvera would come out and be apprehended. Sometime later Olvera stole a white Cadillac that was parked in a driveway. From there he headed down Highway 79 to Robertson County. At this point a State Trooper spotted him and followed for a while before calling off the chase because of slick roads.

DPS officers said Olvera continued into Brazos County, where Hearne officers and a Brazos County trooper continued the chase. The Brazos County trooper spun out on the wet streets and wrecked near Business 6 and Highway 6.

Olvera proceeded to College Station and lost control of the Cadillac when he exited University Drive. Good citizens went to help him but were frightened away when they realized the man was nude. He was finally arrested by College Station Police Sergeant Calder Lively.

Leon County Deputies said they will charge Olvera with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. DPS has charged Olvera with driving while intoxicated and evading arrest. His bond was set at $2,000.
