Flo Water approves new well West of I-45

By Mac Shadix

The Directors of Flo Water unanimously approved a new well to be drilled West of Interstate 45 at their regular monthly meeting at Celebration Church, Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 6 P.M. Construction is to begin as soon as Athens Texas based Womble Drilling can start. The total cost for the well is expected to be about $50,000 which Flo Water will be able to pay from current operating funds. The total amount is nearly $100,000 less than the first estimates provided to the board.

The completion of the well, expected to yield about 150 gallons per minute should allow Flo Water to get TCEQ approval for taking over the troubled Joey Rodell Water System which has about fifty customers and currently relies on a tap on the Buffalo Water System for its water.

In other action the Board agreed to make changes to the tariff to allow the acceptance of checks for disconnected or final accounts. Approval was also given for J.B. Davis to serve as legal counsel. Davis, a retired attorney, told the board that they could call on him anytime and that he would do what he could and that the fees would be small or none.

The Board tabled a discussion of installing a fence at the Flo Water office on FM 1511, and added the issue to the agenda for next meeting along with a consideration of the building of shelter for the backhoe and transport truck.

The Board also tabled action on generators required to come into compliance with a TCEQ enforcement action. The board has been awarded funds for one large generator and this must be completed before another is purchased.
