DNA results positively link Marquez assaults Earlier this year in July a 77 year old Marquez woman was sexually assaulted and then in September another elderly Marquez woman was attacked. The cases were similar but the Leon County Sheriff’s department could not definitely say that the perpetrator was the same until DNA results came back. According to Leon County Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Victor Smith, that information has been received and the two are a definite match. In September DNA linked the Marquez cases to another in Lavaca County where a 90 year old woman was robbed and raped. There are also two similar unsolved sexual assaults in Bell County where the victims were older women. Investigators say that the man could possibly be responsible for eight sexual assaults statewide and there is a likelihood of other victims. All victims have been over 60 and live alone. Since the investigation is statewide Deputy Smith will be attending a Cold Case Review Team this week. The team consists of retired Texas Rangers and other law enforcement officers. |
