Armed robbers hit Jewett business

By Sherry Matney

John Locus owns a check cashing store in Jewett and was checking his e-mail at around 10:00 a.m. Friday morning just after opening. Suddenly a man burst into his office with a gun. Locus reached for the man with the gun and attempted to fight back, but was hit by a second man.

The men fled after they tied Locus up with a phone cord and stole his jewelry and $7,000 cash.

Authorities believe the assault may involve the same men who have been cashing very convincing fake checks at check cashing stores recently.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5’6”, 160 lbs. with very bushy hair and a mustache.
