Lady Bison stumble at the end of first half of season

The future of Buffalo volleyball appears to be in very capable hands -- including those of #10 Hannah Laningham and her 8th grade teammates. Van’Go’photo The future of Buffalo volleyball appears to be in very capable hands -- including those of #10 Hannah Laningham and her 8th grade teammates. Van’Go’photo With back-to-back losses last week, the Lady Bison dug a hole for themselves as the first half of district play came to an end. Buffalo fell to Centerville on Tuesday, but the fatal blow came with a three-set loss to New Waverly on Friday. Centerville, the third ranked team in the state, cruised through the first half at 7-0. Anderson-Shiro sits in second place at 6-1. New Waverly stands at 5-2 with Buffalo trailing at 4-3.

Buffalo struggled to string together much offense against a solid Centerville defense. The Lady Bison did manage double digits in all three sets but the Lady Tigers rolled to 31-1 on the season with a 25-11, 25-11, 25-12 win.

Karlee Ferguson served for six points to pace the Lady Bison. Kaila Grissett served for five points, and Brooke Trahan served for three. Jordyn Briscoe added one service point.

Hitting errors were the dirge of the Lady Bison on Friday when New Waverly played in Buffalo. The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Bison were tied going into the match. Although the teams were well-matched, the Lady Bulldogs took the upper hand in the 25-17, 25-21, 25-21 match win. Trahan and Kylan Ferguson served for seven points each. Meredith Shaw and Karlee Ferguson each served for three points while Grissett and Briscoe added two each.

Grissett nailed eight kills in the match and managed nine digs to lead the Lady Bison offensively and defensively. Briscoe finished the match with four kills and five digs. Shaw dropped 3 kills, one block and scooped up four digs. Karlee Ferguson, Desiree Worthy, and Kylan Ferguson each landed two kills each. Worthy registered a season-high seven blocks and Kylan Ferguson added four. Trahan dished nine assists on the night while Kylan Ferguson distributed seven.

The Lady Bison will be looking to turn things around when they host Corrigan- Camden on Tuesday before traveling to Anderson-Shiro for a rematch on Saturday.
