JV Lady Bison nip the Lady Bulldogs

After coming up short in a valiant performance in Centerville on Tuesday, the Buffalo junior varsity Lady Bison nipped a victory from the jaws of New Waverly's Lady Bulldogs on Friday. The junior varsity Lady Bison finished the first half with 4-3 slate. The freshmen team was a bit rusty after a week long lay off, and fell to the Lady Tigers in straight sets. New Waverly did not field a freshman team.
The Lady Bison fell to Centerville 15-25, 20-25. Laken McCabe served for five points to lead the Lady Bison. Reagan Read served for four points, and Tionna Adams served for three. Samantha Atkinson and Kayla Ward served for two each. Atkinson provided a big blocking presence during the match.
Buffalo held off the Lady Bulldogs to win the first set 26-24. New Waverly responded with a 17-25 win to force a tie breaker. The Lady Bulldogs led at 23-20, but Buffalo broke serve and tied up the match. New Waverly broke serve for match point, but once again the Lady Bison tied up the match. Read served for the last two points and the win.
Adams and McCabe led the scoring with nine points each. Ward and Atkinson finished with six points. Read served for five points, and Heather Sigert added one. Emily Grissett, Atkinson and Read all landed kills.
The ninth grade team fell to Centerville in straight sets 25-8, 25-7.
