Margie Elizabeth Frank

Margie Frank was born March 8, 1928 in Clay County, Mississippi. She graduated high school and attended two years of college. Then, she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served at Ellington A.F.B. She eventually married and moved to South Houston. While there, she was active in her church and in raising her three children. She went to work at NASA for several years.

In 1981, she and her husband, Leonard, moved to Leona, Texas. She joined First Baptist Church in Centerville. She also went to work as a secretary/receptionist for Walters Funeral Home where she served for well over 20 years. During those years, she served as church hostess, worked many long hours at the funeral home, made cakes and catered many weddings. She was a Charter Member of Leona Baptist Church and a member of the origi- nal Building Committee that drafted the plans to construct the Leona Baptist Church. She was an active member of her Sunday School class both at First Baptist and Leona Baptist. At one point, she took the courses, training and tests that allowed her to serve on the Centerville Volunteer Ambulance. Recently, she retired from her funeral home work to stay at home and take care of her disabled husband. Margie passed away on September 29, 2009 in the Olin E. Teague V.A. Hospital in Temple, Texas.

Margie was a unique individual who made a lasting impression on almost all people that she met. She had a concern for others and served God by her church work and by the way she lived her life. She will be missed. Her family and friends will miss her dry sense of humor, her Italian Cream cakes, her laughter, her homemade dinner rolls, her willingness to help with “whatever” needed doing and her Thanksgiving sweet potatoes. Physically, she was a very tall woman and in this community, she was, indeed very “tall”.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents; a beloved young daughter, Lynette Irene Beck; two brothers and a sister. Survivors include her son, Mardie Wendell Beck (Barbara) of Spring, Texas; daughter, Jerry Elizabeth Beck Walker of Katy, Texas; four brothers, Tom Langford (June) of Missouri City, Texas, Dale Langford (Margaret) of Harrisburg, Illinois, Billy Mack Langford of Athens, Alabama and Raymond Dennis Langford of Gautier, Mississippi; four grandchildren, Melissa Rehkopf (Rob) of Cedar Hill, Texas, Chris Beck (Deidra) of Mont Belvieu, Texas, Julie Ann Burson (Jason) of Bellville, Texas and Justin Walker of Houston, Texas ; seven great grandchildren, Jordan, Johnathon, Madison, Megan, Bryce, Amber and Jacob and many good friends.

Funeral services for Margie Frank were held at 11 AM on Friday, October 2, 2009 at the Walters Funeral Home. Rev. Joe Dacus officiated and burial was in the Leona Cemetery. Pallbearwers were Bud Cartee, John Ed Freshour, Dennis Langford, Jason Burson, Justin Walker and Chris Beck. Walters Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
