Hostesses for the September luncheon and meeting were Bobbye Bullock, Jane Ann Durbin, and Margaret Heggins.

Nola Boughton, President of Texas Retired Teachers Association District VI, was the guest speaker. Information concerning retired school personnel in Texas was shared along with information concerning the importance of attending the upcoming TRTA District VI Fall Convention. Retaining and gaining new members for 2009-2010 is a priority for TRTA membership chairmen and local members. There are many challenges ahead for the TRTA organization. Long term care insurance was another topic of concern for several LCRTA members.

A short business meeting was conducted by president, Bobbye Bullock.

The minutes for the May meeting were read by secretary, Joyce Meyers.

The treasurer's report was given by Mary O'Banion. Thank you notes were read from students who received one of the four LCRTA scholarships for 2008-2009. Scholarships were awarded to qualified high school graduating seniors planning to major in education and who were graduating from one of the five high schools in Leon County. The two LCRTA $500.00 scholarships were awarded to Lashaundra Ransom and Amanda Whitworth both from Centerville ISD. The two LCRTA $250.00 scholarships were awarded to Shakaya Cartwright from Normangee ISD and Chad Nelson from Buffalo ISD

Birthdays and anniversaries were recognized and door prizes were presented. Those winning the door prizes were Al Campbell, Virginia Crabb, and new member, Lavern Manning.

LCRTA meets the fourth Wednesday of most months at the Municipal Building in Centerville. Lunch is served at 12:00 pm before the business meetings. The November and December meetings will be on the third Wednesdays due to Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Interesting programs are planned for each month. Retired public school personnel, retired university personnel, and friends of education are invited to join the monthly meetings.
