Family Literacy Night will be celebrated at Buffalo Elementary School on Tuesday, October 6, from 6:00-7:00 p.m., and a book fair will wrap around it (5:00-6:00 and 7:00-8:00)

2009 Bell Family Reunion Second weekend in October October 10, 2009. Come celebrate the Bell Family Reunion at The River House at the end of PR 303 in Oakwood, TX starting around 11:00 a.m. BBQ will be provided. Please bring side dishes and desserts. For more information please call 903-545-2355. The Cecil Bell family. Highway Tabernacle Church of God is inviting anyone who like to come and sing to sign up on October 10th, 2009. They would also like to extend an invitation to anyone who would just like to come listen and enjoy. Refreshments will be served after the singing.

The annual Parker Cemetery Memorial will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2009. Program at 11 A.M., lunch at Noon, business meeting at 12:30 P.M.

The Oakwood EE Club will have a spaghetti luncheon on Sunday, October 11 at the High School Cafeteria. Serving will begin at 11:00. The menu includes: beef and chicken spaghetti, tossed salad, hot bread, homemade dessert and iced tea. Donations are accepted. The proceeds from this fundraiser will be used for scholarships. Please help support our area youth. Thank you.

The Leona United Methodist Church will have revival services beginning October 11, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. Services will be held on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evening at the same hour. The public is invited. Brigadier General Hiram Jones (ret. USAF) will be the preacher for the three evenings. Gen. Jones was serving as Chief of Chaplains at the time of his retirement. He is a native of Madisonville, a graduate of Lon Morris College, Sam Houston State University and Southern Methodist University Perkins School of Theology. He and his wife reside in Montgomery, TX.

The Vietnam Veterans of

America (VVA) and the Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America (AVVA) Palestine Chapter 991 will hold their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 13th 2009, at 7:00 pm in the Disabled American Veterans Hall, located at 927 Gardner Drive, Palestine, Texas. The Lone Star Community Center will host its Annual Halloween Carnival on October 24, 2009. Games will begin at 6:00 p.m. and end around 9:00 p.m. Food will be served beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the dining room.
