Fans for both teams packed the stands when the Leon Cougars hosted the Buffalo Bison in an eagerlyanticipated game on Friday, September 25. They were rewarded with an exciting contest with both teams moving the ball well. The score was knotted at halftime, but in the end the Bison had clinched a come-from-behind victory over their neighbors to the west. More ... The Lady Bison continued on their quest for a playoff berth last week with two key wins in district play. Buffalo out distanced Groveton in a five set match on Tuesday before cruising to a three set match win over Onalaska on Friday. The lady Bison will travel to Centerville on Tuesday and then wrap up the first half of district play when they host New Waverly on Friday. More ... The Bison JV men were tough enough on Thursday evening. They started things off with an 80-yard runback by Gustavo Montano. It was called back on a penalty, but the Purple and Gold had sent a message: This is OUR field. David Rodriguez ran for a first and Travis Cunningham scored on a 40-yard scamper for a 6-0 lead. More ... The Buffalo Junior High volleyball teams saw their first tournament action of the year on Saturday in Centerville. An early morning match up with Leon sent both squads to the consolation side of the bracket. The seventh grade went on to defeat two Centerville teams to win the consolation trophy. The eighth grade Lady Bison defeated North Zulch, but fell to Normangee in the consolation finals. More ... It is always a unique game when Buffalo and Leon teams compete. The students are acquainted -- and often even friends -- having played one another or even been teammates in Little League baseball or football or as Little Dribblers. More ... The junior high volleyball teams continued to roll through district with a 4-0 sweep in New Waverly last Monday night. Competition was strong, but the Lady Bison came away with a victory at each level. More ... The Oakwood Panther Pride is back on track. This week they traveled to Oglesby to play the Tigers. They showed those Tigers what their "bring the wood" motto is all about. More ... The Oakwood Junior High football team is now 3/0 for the season. Their latest conquest was the Trinidad Trojans. More ... The Tigers hosted the Elks and were very rude to the visitors as they dominated in every category and won easily 41-7 on September 25th. The Elks kicked off and the Tigers drove 65 yards in 9 plays capped by an 8 yard run by Seth Mahaffey to take a 6-0 lead with 7:33 left in the 1st quarter. The extra point was no good. More ... The Lady Tigers upped their season record to 30-1 and district record to 5-0 with convincing wins against Trinity and Groveton. The Tigers traveled to Trinity on September 22nd and won 25-9, 25-11, and 25-12. More ... The junior varsity volleyball team scored two wins last week when they defeated Groveton and Onalaska at home. Buffalo beat Groveton 25-10, 25-18 and downed Onalaska 25-12, 15-15. Laken McCabe scorched the courts for seven teen service points. Reagan Read served for nine points, and Heather Sigert added seven. Kayla Ward served for two while Tionna Adams added one. More ... The Lady Cougars opened the district race with a convincing sweep of three games against Rosebud-Lott 25-11, 25-16, and 25-7 on September 22nd and followed that up with a hard fought victory against the Iola Lady Bulldogs 30-28, 22-25, 25-21, and 25-16 in a non-district match on September 25th.
