Oreta Hinkle Harrison
Funeral services for Oreta Hinkle Harrison, age 87, of Midway were held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday in the Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville. Rev Glenn Connor, pastor of the Elwood Baptist Church, officiated at the services. Interment followed in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery near Centerville. Funeral services were under the direction of Walters Funeral Home in Centerville
Mrs. Harrison was born in Wise County, Texas on May 23, 1922 to Oscar and Winnie (Nash) Hinkle. During her early years she lived in Navarro County. She married her husband Carl Dee Harrison of seventy-two years at an early age. Mr. Harrison worked in refinery construction which enabled Oreta to travel with her husband all over the world. Mr. Harrison’s job took them to Africa, Australia, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia and Iran. Oreta collected many relics and antiques during their travels.
Oreta was a member and attended the Elwood Baptist Church in the Elwood Community near Madisonville. She was a homemaker who loved to garden with her daughter Linda. Oreta was very artistic and was excellent at drawing and sketching. She always said that her most important job was taking care of her husband. Mr. and Mrs. Harrison lived in Centerville and Normangee prior to moving to Midway. Oreta died Friday morning September 25, 2009 in Madisonville. She was preceded in death by her son Ronnie Harrison on July 19, 1986 and a sister, Wanda Faye Hinkle.
She is survived by her husband Carl Dee Harrison of Midway; daughter Linda Tampke and husband Mike of Midway; brothers Coy Hinkle and wife Elmerene of Wichita Falls, and Bill Hinkle and wife Janiece of Waco. She is also survived by her grandchildren Carlynn Gardner and husband Keith, Ben Coleman and wife Shawn, Deanne Craft and husband Don, Don Nell Wedding and husband Chris, Coby Jackson and Wesley Mastic. Numerous great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter also survive.
Pallbearers were Keith Gardner, Colby Gardner, Clint Gardner, Don Craft, Ben Coleman, Damon Harrison & Ronnie Ranton.
