Residents of Hilltop Lakes were horrified as they watched a plane crash Wednesday, September 23, just after dark.   According to authorities, the runway lights had been turned off because of the threat of lightning. Local residents were alarmed by a newcast on KBTX Monday evening reporting that Huntsville ISD is initiating a two-day school closing in an effort to stop the spread of the flu virus. The Oakwood School Board met briefly last night. First on the agenda was naming the first 2009-2010 "Students of the Month". For the Elementary, that was sixth grader Victoria Hill. The High School representative was senior J.P. Hicks. Funeral services for Eddie Marie Scott, age 86 of Centerville, were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 24, 2009 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Bro. My younger son is a senior in high school and playing varsity football. He's a natural leader, a fantastic team player and an A-B student. We couldn't be more proud, though we're having a tough time handling the disappointment of the coach not giving him enough play time. Fans for both teams packed the stands when the Leon Cougars hosted the Buffalo Bison in an eagerlyanticipated game on Friday, September 25. They were rewarded with an exciting contest with both teams moving the ball well. The score was knotted at halftime, but in the end the Bison had clinched a come-from-behind victory over their neighbors to the west. More...
CAT SPRING -- Helping landowners and others understand reduced quail habitat in the Blackland Prairies and Post Oak Savanna of Texas and how they might be restored is the focus of the Texas Quail Study Group workshop.   The workshop will take place Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in Cat Spring, about one hour west of Houston.   More...
