      This week was huge for Buffalo volleyball, and the Lady Bison answered with a big win over Trinity to remain in playoff contention. Buffalo also picked up a non-district win over Wortham prior to the homecoming football game.

      There was doubt as to whether the JV Bison would get their scheduled game in on Thursday evening at Normangee High School. The Buffalo/Wortham junior high games scheduled at WHS had already been cancelled due to heavy rainstorms cruising through the area.

Sub-Varsity volleyball teams turn in winning performances
      The sub varsity volleyball teams turned in winning performances last week, going three for three in matches. Both the ninth and junior varsity squads defeated Trinity on the road on Tuesday. The junior varsity also handed Wortham a loss on Friday.

BJHS volleyball teams sweep A-S
      For the second week in a row, all four junior high volleyball teams won their matches. Anderson-Shiro managed to take only two sets out of ten during the night as Buffalo dominated the hardwood.

Stampede 5K draws good crowd
      A better-than-expected crowd of runners turned out for the first ever Buffalo Stampede 5K/Fun Run. The races drew a few athletes from out-of-town, but mostly it was local runners who took advantage of the opportunity to test their training against a 3.1-mile course on the rolling hills of Star Route Road on Saturday morning.

C’ville Lady Tigers win two games this week
      The Centerville Lady Tigers defeated Corrigan- Camden 25-8, 25-10, and 25- 16 in a district match up and traveled to West and defeated them 25-22, 25-15, and 25-21 to push their season record to 28-1. Their only loss was to Salado in a tournament game early in the season.

Leon Lady Cougars defeat Waco Robinson and Lorena
      The Lady Cougars continued their winning as they traveled to Waco on September 15th and defeated Waco Robinson in 5 games 20-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-17, and 15- 12. They traveled to Lorena on September 18th and won the match in 4 games 23-25, 25-22, 25-16, and 25-19.

      The Centerville Tigers hosted the Riesel Indians and came up a little short but showed good improvement as they head into district play in three weeks.

Leon Cougars rally to squeak by Bremond 22-19
      The Leon Cougars came from behind in the 4th quarter to defeat a tough Bremond team 22-19 on September 18th at Bremond.   The Cougars got on the scoreboard on a 75-yard pass from quarterback Kirby Watson to Justin Padgett with 11:17 to go in the 1st quarter. Cason McCune drilled the extra point and Leon had a 7-0 advantage.

      The Oakwood Blue and Gold football team lost their Homecoming game Friday night to the Milford Bulldogs. Milford is ranked 9th in the state, and it showed.

Oakwood Varsity Lady Panthers “Bring the Wood”
      Friday night was Oakwood's Homecoming. Some of the volleyball players are also cheerleaders and others were Homecoming Queen candidates. Scheduling conflicts meant playing against the Chester Lady Yellow Jackets, rushing home to change clothes, get their hair and make-up done, and get over to Panther Stadium for the football game; all between 3:30 and 7:30.

Oakwood Junior High Panthers bury the Badgers
      Game two of the Oakwood Junior High Panther football season may have started off slow, but remember: Slow and steady wins the race. Damiyne Durham scored a touchdown off a kick return to start off the game. Myua Abram got the next TD. The game was tied at 13 at the half. Turnovers were stalling progress.
