Straight from The Horse’s Mouth
Are you a Detail Person or a Big Picture Person? Both of these characteristics are needed in life, the lucky ones have equal amounts of both traits. Not me. But, I've come to embrace my Big Pictureness. I wouldn't say I am cautious, but definitely conscientious, heedful, and caring. I am not exact, microscopic, or stickling and I have been known to be a bit messy. It's all about journey, the experience, not necessarily the outcome for Big Pic people.
There was the time I was two, I peddled my trike along a four lane road. Then when I was ten I ventured to paddle a styrofoam "boat" down a dangerously flooded creek. A few years ago I sold everything and tried to sail around the world. (Much bigger boat!) Last year I started a bookstore/coffee shop without much thought of finances. These things seemed like good ideas at the time; travel, adventure, desire! The benefits outweigh the risks, right? This is Big Picture kind of stuff. I give Detailers strokes.
Detail people take their time, calculate, get the job done perfectly. They never have to go back to fix things. Their work is valuable, desirable, and needed. If it weren't for this kind of person we'd have no accountants, engineers or pastries. Detailed people make the world go 'round. I respect them wholeheartedly. I just can't do their work. If there's an itch to scratch, a need to be filled, I try to make it happen. Messy, but done. I've been very blessed to have good friends who will help me with details when I can't get it together. Thank you!
I know two lovely ladies in Buffalo who are a perfect match, both as a team and in their levels of Detail Orientation and Big Pictureness. Tammy Sklar and Merry Millar are renovating the building across the street from the Sale Barn to open "The Stage Coach Deli" this Fall. I've seen their concept drawings and tasted their food. Let me tell you, Buffalo very lucky to have these women. We're in for a really big treat!
No matter if details or big pictures dominate your life, utilize your skills. It would be tragic to spend precious time fighting yourself trying to be what you're not. We need you just the way you are to Keep Buffalo Bonafide.
