In a local restaurant last night and in walks Janie Morrison, grown daughter Monica Little and Monica and Clint’s little boy Carson, being carried. They paused at our table to visit a moment and suddenly little Carson looked intently at my plate, made a reaching motion with his little hand, and starting saying something that, for me at least, was unintelligible….. But men of our caliber, Carson and I, though separated by years, many years in fact…..We all speak a common language through FOOD. Due to this simple denominator, I was able to instantly divine that what he was telling me was he defi- nitely wanted and desired one of the French Fries off my plate. Now being armed with this new knowledge, I said, “Here, boy, I know what you want” and handed him a French Fry. But, you know what? He snurled up his nose, shook his head twice then jabbered something else…. In just a split second, maybe less, I realized that he wanted some of my ketchup, too. Did he get the ketchup? Yes, Sir, you bet. I drug that same Fry through the ketchup, handed it back, and this time he was wall to wall in the smile department. He grabbed that Fry, it disappeared, he wanted more….And, oh yes, got another. It was a wonderful meeting of the minds, his and mine….Absolutely amazing…. The ESP, Karma and understanding fully flowed between us….A true moment of bonding. There are Great Men of Medicine, Great Men of Diplomacy, Great Men of Science, but me and Little Carson….We’re Great Men of Food! Where some rely upon the Food Pyramid, that clumsy three sided affair, why Little Carson and I don’t….. We’re firm believers in the Food Octagon, with so many more sides and facets than that simple, little triangle!

Lady Hitchiker reported on US-84, 5AM in morning, wearing nothing but a night gown. Found to be unfortunate Lady just released from Psychiatric ward, trying to get home to our County. Later call makes me doubtful that she was just released, possibly a few days earlier, some confusion about the towns.

TPD Howard and Martin to problems at residence on 13th, some intoxicated. Ultimatum was given, quieten down or go to Jail. One said would go to Jail before he would go back inside, then he bolted from the yard, but he was quick and got away. The other individual resisted, ended up being Tazed with a Tazer and brought to Jail, Disorderly and Resisting.

Man on FCR-1211 calls to report he is preparing to have a Controlled Burn which was much appreciated ans saved sending local Firemen out on a dry run. FPD Gasaway to loud music on Bond. Also to a fight reported on S. Bateman along with Deputies Robert Willis and Richard McGowan. DPS Putz, Teague VFD and Doctor Chopper to West 84 accident, vehicle on fire, one trapped inside.

Okay, more on the Lady Hitchhiker in the night gown….She just walked into the jail lobby, said she wanted to go back to the Crisis Center. We don’t get many voluntary committals of this nature! But, she said she felt that was where she needed to be. It turns out that she was not released earlier in the night gown, she’d merely gone AWOL. Dep. Rick Howerton, our own version of Marcus Welby, M.D., loaded her up, carried her to the ER. Oh, and the confusion about where she was at that I mentioned earlier? We’d carried her to Tyler last week. Later she wound up in Palestine, then was transferred to Waco. No wonder everybody was confused.

Until Next Week….. RALPH BILLINGS
