Bison buffalo Elk in 9-11 matchup
      The Buffalo Bison came out shooting from the hip at Elkhart on Friday, September 11. They bounced back from last week’s loss with a 28-14 win over the Elks, to the delight of a large crowd of fans who had made the trip despite threatening skies.

BHS Sub-Varsity teams rebound for successful week
      The two sub varsity volleyball teams dropped contests on Tuesday, but rebounded for wins on Friday and both teams earned hardware at the Grapeland Tournament on Saturday. The ninth grade team earned their third trophy in as many tournaments, taking second place behind Palestine Westwood.

Junior High Bison gridders open their season with wins
Eighth grade Bison start with a shutout
      The 8th grade Bison extended last year's win streak with a shutout in the season opener, defeating Elkhart 36-0. Starting things off with a bang, Kyle Read (#11) took the opening kickoff at the 25-yard-line and pitched the ball back to Logan Jones (#34) who took it to the pay dirt with a 75-yard run. Trent Martin (#44) scored on the two-point conversion.

7th graders off to a good start
      The seventh grade Bison team debuted with a solid win over the Elkhart Elks at Brewer Field on Thursday, September 10. Quarterbacked by Dylan St. Pe', the youngest Bison stuck to a ground game and moved the ball consistently.

Buffalo Junior High Volleyball Teams Sweep Centerville
      No brooms were needed last Monday night when the junior high volleyball teams swept Centerville in volleyball action. All four teams won in spite of the Labor Day schedule. The Seventh Grade B team started off action with a two set win. Tailor Jenkins and Melonie Conn were standouts for Buffalo.

This week in Leon Lady Cougars’ sub-varsity action
      CANEY CREEK The Leon Lady JV team defeated Caney Creek on September 8th by a 25-16 and 2519 scores. In the first game the Cougars were behind 0-4 but put on a surge and won 25-16. The second contest had the Cougars ahead all of the way and winning 25-19.

Oakwood Junior High Football starts off season on a high note
      The Oakwood Jr. High Football team may be young but that did not stop them from running Covington into the ground 52-to-7 on Thursday night. The game was called about two minutes short with a final touchdown forcing the 45-point mercy rule.

Centerville Lady Tigers JV capture third place in tournament
      The Centerville Lady Tigers competed in the Leon tournament held on September 10th and September 12th. The Tigers won their pool games and played the Bryan Rudder team Saturday at about 3:00pm. Rudder is a large school but the Tigers lost an exciting 1st game 24-26 and the 2nd game was just as close but they lost 23-25.

Oakwood High Panthers Crush the Covington Owls
      @ @ Center ville @ Corrigan-Whoo-hoo crushed the Covington Owls Friday night? That would be the Oakwood Panther Pride. This high school football team is really making six-man football work for them. Week after week they find themselves overpowering their opponents to the point that the mercy rule must be enforced. With a score of 53-6 at half time, this game was no exception.

OHS Lady Panther volleyball
      VERSUS ELKHART The Oakwood Lady Panther JV and Varsity teams both lost to the Elkhart Lady Elks again this week. The games got off to a rough start with the JV’s 11-25 loss in the first set. The second set found them washed out with 14-25. The OHS junior varsity team is still struggling to call the ball.

Lady Cougars’ varsity 1/1 on week
      The Lady Cougars split this week. They hosted the Caney Creek Lady Panthers and won three straight games on September 8th, but traveled to Mexia and lost in five games on September 11th.

Leon Cougars defeat Centerville Tigers 27-13
      The Leon Cougars defeated the Centerville Tigers 27-13 on September 11th in Jewett. The weather was perfect for football until 50 seconds were left in the third quarter when the heavens opened up and soaked the playing field as the spectators scattered for cover. Thankfully the homecoming festivities went off without a hitch.

Centerville Lady Tigers varsity defeats New Waverly for second district win
      The Centerville Lady Tigers kept their district record perfect with a 25-8, 25-10, 25-15 win over New Waverly on September 8th. The Tigers only have 1 loss for the season. The Tigers had no trouble in any game as they controlled the tempo from the outset.

Fungus the Clown visits TEEC
      Nineteen Leon County Texas Extension Education Club members met along with EE Clubs of District 8 for the annual summer retreat at Latham Springs Baptist Camp in Aquilla, TX on August 25-26, 2008. Falls and McLennon Counties hosted the event with assistance from Hamilton and Leon Counties. Lear Alford of Falls County welcomed all attendees with a humorous “Shout It Out” roll call.

Buffalo High School yearbooks have arrived
      The wait for High School yearbooks is over and all the 2009 High School graduates who ordered their yearbooks ahead of time can now pick them up in the High School's front office. Elementary Memory books are also available. The prices ranging from 25 dollars for soft covers to 30 dollars for hard covers.
