Myrtie Alice “Bop” Kuhn

Funeral services for Myrtle Alice Kuhn, also known as “Myrtie Alice” or “Bop” Kuhn, age 84 of the Centerview Community of Leon County, were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the New Salem Cemetery Chapel. One of her friends, Mrs. Carol Walters, officiated at the service. Interment followed in the New Salem Cemetery. Walters Funeral Home in Centerville was in charge of all arrangements.

Visitation was held on Friday, September 11, 2009 from 2 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas.

Myrtle Alice Kuhn was born on December 6, 1924 in what is now known as the Guys Store Community to Henry Lee & Emma (Tullis) Duke. She worked as a homemaker (and she was a hard worker), a wife, a mother and was a Baptist by faith. “Myrtie Alice” lived her whole life in Leon County. She was also a charter member of the Cemetery Board at New Salem Cemetery. Practically all of her family is buried there and, through the years, she worked hard to keep the cemetery in the excellent condition that it is in today.

“Myrtie Alice” passed away September 8th in Crockett following a lengthy illness. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Gordon “Son” Kuhn; brothers, George LeeDuke, Joel Samuel “Dugan” Duke and Howard “Jubie” Duke and sisters, Etta Mae O’Bannon, Emma Bethel “Tush” Damon and Mary “Witt” McRae.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Tommy Sherman of the Centerview Community; a brother, Jerry Duke of Riverside, Texas and many, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Serving as pallbearers: Joel Jeter, Henry Duke, Jacob Duke, Joel Duke, James Duke and Fred Allen Wells. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Barnes and Dan Wingerson.
