Stampede! Don’t miss the fun and action at the 30th Annual Buffalo Stampede this Friday and Saturday. The action kicks off with a 42 domino tournament at Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church along with refreshments. The prizes for the winning teams will be a buffalo-engraved domino set. At 6 p.m. Friday there will be a free dinner for everyone, along with the amateur horseshoe pitching competition, both held at the official Tri County Pitching Range in Buffalo. Although there are some prizes to be won, the game is just for fun and anybody who can throw a horseshoe is encouraged to enter. Spectators often have as much fun as participants. Take the I-45 Southbound feeder road right on Sand Hill Cemetery Road. Go ¼ mile over the railroad tracks to reach the range. Saturday morning Festivities will begin with the First Annual Stampede 5K and Fun Run. Registration for the races starts at 7 a.m. at the entrance to Harriman Park with the 5K starter’s gun shot at 8 a.m. and the 1-mile Fun Runners shortly thereafter. (Residents along Railroad Street and Star Route are encouraged to limit traffic --and tie up any dogs-- during the 8:00-9:00 a.m. hour of the race!) Everyone is invited to run and all entrants will receive a free t-shirt. As always everyone’s favorite the annual Buffalo Stampede Parade will start at 9 a.m. near the high school, travel down Hwy 75 South to Hwy 79 East and then turn into Harriman Park. This year’s parade is expected to be the biggest and best parade in the history of the event. Line up for the parade will start at 8 a.m. After the parade may activities are planned for a day at the park with entertainment, food, fun and the annual stampede auction at 1 p.m. Many wonderful items donated from local merchants will be auctioned off along with Buffalo Bucks. The Buffalo Bucks are new this year and will be prizes in the auction and raffle. The bucks are as good as cash at most area merchants. Remember the auction does not end the Stampede this year. We are having the final horseshoe pitching tournament at 4 p.m. Saturday. The Buffalo Chamber of Commerce cordially invites everyone to come be part of the 2009 Stampede -- and bring a friend! |
