Buffalo’s volleyball teams hit the road last Tuesday to begin district play in Corrigan-Camden. The Lady Bison won at the ninth grade and varsity levels, while the Lady Bulldogs stole the junior varsity match. Buffalo will host Anderson-Shiro on Tuesday for the next district match up. More ... The Lovelady Lions proved that their state-ranking is well deserved when they came to town Friday evening and handed the Buffalo Bison a humbling defeat. BHS had high hopes for the home opener, coming off of a high-scoring victory last week. This week, however, miscues, penalties and errors proved very costly to the Bison and they came out on the losing end of the scoreboard, 7-49. More ... After finishing second in their pool on Thursday, the ninth grade Lady Bison won two out of three matches on Saturday to claim third place at the Centerville Tournament. The junior varsity came up short in the bracketformat tournament, losing to Fairfield in the consolation finals. More ... The Lady Bison teams traveeled to Corrigan-Camden last Tuesday to being district play. The varsity team was short several players due to injuries, so sophomore Kelsey Canady was called up from JV. JUNIOR VARSITY More ... The Junior Varsity Bison football team open their '09 season with an impressive road win over the Lovelady Lions. Buffalo got on the scoreboard first when Travis Cunningham broke away on a 40-yard scoring run. The Bison were unable, however, to convert on the points-after attempt. More ... The Centerville Tigers traveled to Bruceville-Eddy on September 4th and lost 18- 13 on a touchdown with 2 ½ minutes left in the game. More ... Lorie Ward is a new face on the Centerville volleyball coaching staff. In addition to coaching the Lady Tigers volleyball JV/freshman team and assisting with the varsity team she teaches anatomy and science. More ... The Leon Cougars traveled to Kerens on September 4th and suffered a 44-21 defeat at the hands of the Bobcats. More ... The Leon Cougars JV team rallied in the second half but still fell to the Bobcats 20-6 on September 3rd in Jewett. More ... The Hilltop Lakes men competed in a 4 Man Skins game. The Lady Panthers struggled this week against the Lady Elks. According to Head Coach Stephanie Lucio, "Overall, they didn't play to their potential." After losing to Palestine last week and Elkhart this week, Lucio is pushing them hard to practice more and learn from their mistakes. More ... The Oakwood Panthers have done it again. Playing Friday against the Phoenix Firebirds from Greenville, the Panthers had another runaway game. With a final score of 64-0, the Firebirds were left squawking for the mercy rule by halftime. More ... September 3 Game of the Day for the 9-hole gals was "Silent Partners". Seven players participated. Lorna Webb and Paula Chicken took first place with 72, while Betty Von Bieberstein and Marcia Waller took 2nd. Third place winners were Garlyn Person and JoAnn Pool. Fourth place was won by Dorothy Green and Jo Ann Pool. Low Putts for the day with only 11 putts went to Lorna Webb. More ... The Lady Tigers continued on a winning streak by winning their first district game against Onalaska and traveled to Bruceville-Eddy and notched a non-district victory. Against Onalaska the Tigers swept 3 games by scores of 25-5, 25-7, and 25-10. The Tigers were in control of all three games and were never threatened. More ... The Lady Cougars increased their season record to 24-2 with victories over Mexia and Madisonville. Against Mexia on September 1 the Cougars were tied 10-10 in game 1 before going on a spurt and winning 25-15. Game 2 was similar and the final score was 25-13. In game 3 the Cougars jumped to an 11-5 advantage and cruised to a 25-17 win. More ... The Lady Tigers have two JV teams because of the large number of players. One is composed of mostly freshmen and is coached by Lorie Ward. They defeated Crockett on September 3 at 1:00 by a 25-5 and 25-10 margin. Coach Ward’s team dominated in both games and was never tested by Crockett. More ... The Leon Lady Cougars JV had a busy week playing Mexia on September 1st, and Madisonville on September 4th in addition to competing in the Centerville tournament on September 3rd and September 5th.
