Van’Go’photo Judge Byron Ryder, Neva Jo Brooks and Faye Andrews of the Colonel George Dashiell Chapter of the DAR stand by the Arnold Friberg painting, “The Prayer at Valley Forge”, which has been donated to the county. Van’Go’photo The courtroom in the Leon County Annex Building will be enhanced after this week by the addition of a large painting presented by the Colonel George Dashiell Chapter of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution.) "The Prayer at Valley Forge" by artist Arnold Friberg, depicts George Washington kneeling in prayer in a snowy meadow, petitioning the hand of God for guidance in the affairs of men. The donor of the finely-framed painting is a Chapter member who wished to remain anony- mous, specifying only that it be placed where many people could view it. Judge Ryder and the commissioners expressed their appreciation, on behalf of the county, for the gift.

The painting was unveiled during a special called meeting of the Commissioners Court held on September 2, 2009. Regent Mae Bruce led the ceremony, with other members of the Chapter participating. The presentation included a biography of the artist, and a review of the contributions of George Washington.
