Leon Lady Cougars brings home gold from Tyler Invitational Volleyball Tournament

The Lady Cougars were Tournament Champs at Tyler last weekend, and brought home individual honors as well. The Leon Lady Cougars defeated Longview 24-26, 27- 25, and 25-15 to bring home the trophy and gold medals from the tournament.

The tournament was played on August 28th and August 29 with 32 teams competing with the majority of the teams being 4A and 5A schools. Leon was one of the few 2A schools invited. On August 28th the Cougars won their pool play and were one of 8 teams to advance to the championship bracket. The Cougars played John Tyler, one of the favorites and beat them Saturday morning. They beat Robert E. Lee, another tournament favorite, to advance to the championship game against Longview.

Congratulations Chelby and Kori! Friday’s pool play Leon beat Kilgore 25-14, 25-10: Corsicana 25-10, 25-11: Texas High (Texarkana) 25-18, 25-18.

Saturday’s championship bracket defeated John Tyler 25-22, 25-22: Tyler Lee 18-25, 25-17-25-22

In the championship game Leon defeated Longview 24-26, 27-25, 25- 15

Prior to the Tyler tournament the Cougars traveled to Snook and won easily 25-13, 25-5, 25-8 on August 25.

Leon Junior High swept Hearne in the 7th and 8th grade matches: 7th grade “A” 25-13,25-12; 7th grade “B” 25-3,25-8; 8th grade “A” 25- 17,25-7; 8th grade “B” 25-11. 25-9

Coach Jason Evans has a young team that is improving every game and play hard every time they are on the court.

The Cougars host Mexia on September 1st and travel to Madisonville on September 4th.
