Lady Bison end dual match on high note

The Varsity Lady Bison played volleyball for three and a half hours Tuesday night when they took on Palestine and Diboll in back-to-back matches. Palestine’s athleticism was the deciding factor in the first match, but the Lady Bison’s youthful enthusiasm paid off in the second match.

Buffalo won the first set 25-23, but Palestine responded with three wins 15-25, 21-25, 15-25. Brooke Trahan s11erved for ten points, including two aces. Karlee Ferguson tallied eight points and one service ace while Meredith Shaw totaled seven points and four aces. Jordyn Briscoe served for five points, including one ace. Lindsey McGill and Kylan Ferguson each added one service point.

Briscoe nailed seven kills and Desiree Worthy pounded five to spark the offense. Shaw tattooed four, and Kaila Grissett tacked down two. Grissett and Lindsey McGill combined for thirty digs in the match. Shaw and Briscoe added thirteen combined. Kylan Ferguson came up with two blocks for points and Erica Jones rejected one. Trahan and Kylan Ferguson dished six sets each.

Blocking came alive for the Lady Bison in the Diboll match, and proved to be a valuable asset. Buffalo won the first two sets, but dropped the third and fourth sets to Diboll. Trail- ing, 13-11 in the tie-breaker, the Lady Bison broke serve and went on to win the match 15-13.

Trahan provided twenty-five service points in the match. Kylan Ferguson served for ten points while Briscoe and Karlee Ferguson served for eight and seven points, respectively. Jones served for three points, and Shaw added two.

The Lady Bison earned ten points on blocks in the match, a new record for Buffalo in recent history. Worthy and Grissett blocked three each while Shaw and Kylan Ferguson rejected two apiece. Worthy commanded the middle of the net for the Lady Bison offensively with eight kills. Grissett nailed six while Shaw and Briscoe tallied five each. Kylan Ferguson added three. Trahan dished eight assists while Kylan Ferguson distributed five. Libero McGill provided twenty-one digs in the extended match. Briscoe and Grissett each picked up eight digs, and Shaw connected for four. Jones totaled three, and Karlee Ferguson added two.

The Lady Bison will begin district play in Corrigan-Camden on Tuesday, September 1. The ninth grade team will start at 5:00 followed by the junior varsity and varsity.
