A total of four points separated the first and third place teams in pool play Thursday at the Centerville Tournament. Buffalo defeated Goodrich, but lost to Normangee and Fairfield in three set matches. By virtue of records, Buffalo was seeded third from their pool and entered the challenger’s tournament on Saturday. More ... The two sub varsity teams split with the Lady Wildcats in three set matches. More ... The Oakwood Varsity Panthers traveled to Azle Saturday for their first official football game of the season where they met the Dallas Academy Bulldogs. At this neutral location, the Panthers found their first win of the season. It started with a lead of 25-0 in the first quarter, moved on to 38-0 in the second quarter and ended with a score of 51-6 in the third. More ... On August 26 parents, grandparents, relatives and friends gathered at the Leon Gym to meet the coaches and players of the football and volleyball teams. LHS Principal Matt Garner presided. The Varsity Lady Bison played volleyball for three and a half hours Tuesday night when they took on Palestine and Diboll in back-to-back matches. The Lady Tigers hosted the Centerville Extravaganza on August 27th an August 29th and brought home the gold by defeating the Mexia Ladycats in the finals on Saturday. There were 16 teams in the tournament including Buffalo, Normangee, and Oakwood. The Tigers won 3 games on Friday to win their pool and get into the championship bracket. More ... The football season in Centerville kicked off at 6:00p.m. August 27 against the Grapeland Sandies. It was a bright and hot evening and both teams appeared to have the first game jitters as many penalties were called. More ... The Oakwood Lady Panthers Varsity volleyball team fought hard and won against the 3A Westwood Lady Panthers on Tuesday. After losing to Westwood in their first pre-season game, it made bouncing back with the win on their first official game even sweeter. More ... The Oakwood Lady Panthers JV volleyball team was hit hard by the 3A Westwood Lady Panthers in Tuesday's game. They lost both sets with a 19-25 score in the first set and 18-25 in the second set. Although they took the loss, they also picked up some experience. More ... The Oakwood Lady Panthers were pumped up for Friday's games against the Palestine Lady Wildcats. They were looking forward to getting the home court advantage. The Lady Panthers were disappointed when the Wildcat coaches contacted Head Coach Stephanie Lucio with a scheduling conflict. A large portion of their Varsity team are also cheerleaders. More ... The Leon Lady Cougars defeated Longview 24-26, 27- 25, and 25-15 to bring home the trophy and gold medals from the tournament. More ... The Tigers traveled to Grapeland on August 28th in the season opener for both teams and suffered a 26-0 defeat. The Sandies received the kickoff and marched down the field with 3 first downs. On third and goal from the 8 yard line the Sandies scored on a quarterback run. The extra point was wide left and the Sandies led 6-0 with 7:50 left in the opening quarter. More ... |
