Sims to teach district’s youngest students
Pre-K teacher Samantha Sims
Mexia native Samantha Sims joins the BISD staff this fall, where she will be teaching two classes of Pre-K students -- one morning class and another in the afternoon. She will be assisted by aide Santa Soria, and is looking forward to working with the district’s other Pre-K teacher, Janeen Cobb.
Samantha was involved in “everything” at Mexia High School -- including band, color guard, and PALS (Peer Assistance and Leadership Skills), which helped confirmed her aspirations to become a teacher. She was also very active in her church home at Northcrest Church of Christ in Mexia, and describes herself as “the Kid Person at church,” often babysitting and even teaching classes. She also participated in mission trips every summer.
After high school Samantha attended Stephen F. Austin for one year then finished her studies at Texas A&M Commerce at Navarro, where she graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, certified for early childhood through 4th grade. Since graduation she has extended her certification through 8th grade, and is currently working on her ESL certification.
Miss Sims did her student teaching at Mexia and substituted last year at Mesquite ISD. She is looking forward to having her own classroom this year. “I’ve known forever that this is what I’ve wanted to do,” Sims insists with obvious enthusiasm, and her young students will certainly feel the love from this selfprofessed ‘kid per- son’.
