CISD Board adopts new budget with no new taxes A public hearing was held August 26, 2009 at 7 :00 p.m. to discuss the proposed budget and tax rate for 2009- 2010. Superintendent Cathy Nichols explained the Texas Education Agency’s legal requirements for the budget, explaining that the budget is based on estimates of expenditures and revenue. Total operating revenue is estimated to be approximately $6,341,000, roughly $200,000 less than last year. Nichols made it clear that although revenue has decreased, expenses have not. Salaries have increased as well as utility costs, supplies and transportation. The proposed tax rate of $1.04 was discussed. (The same as last year.) The district does not have debt; therefore, does not require an Interest and Sinking tax rate. The lunchroom budget was also reviewed. Expected expenditures match projected revenue at $238,688. Immediately following the public hearing the Centerville ISD Board held a meeting and approved the proposed budget and tax rate of $1.04. The Board also agreed to discontinue discounts for early payment of taxes. Junior/Senior High School Principal Bob Loomis informed the Board that the total number of students in the 7th through 12th grades is 336. Elementary Principal Jason Jeitz reported the total enrollment for the Elementary campus is 380. Superintendent Nichols said the enrollment for both campuses is about the same as last year. Both principals commented on the “Recognized” rating received by both campuses and praised the students and teachers for their efforts and continued hard work. KD Timmons was awarded the 2009-2010 bid for fuel, coming in with a bid of $.06 above rack; for oil $32.11 per case, $500.10 per drum. Charles Nash was nominated for the Leon Central Appraisal District Board of Directors. Nichols presented requests for student transfers. Garrett Ward, Kamaal Bellinfantie and Derek Rosvold, all children of CISD employees, were approved, and one other transfer request was denied. |
