Photo by Melissa Missildine Thursday was "Meet the Teachers" night for O.I.S.D. parents. Superintendent Richard Scoggin began the evening with a short message to parents and students. He took a moment to speak of the impressive report the school received after last year's Taks scores results came in, before explaining that this was not "Open House" and that there would be one soon. Scoggin said "Meet the Teachers" was just that; an opportunity for parents to meet the new teachers that have come on this year and to put faces to the names their children have been speaking of all week.

Among those new teachers for the Jr./Sr. High School is Lisa Holt who teaches English and Journalism, Sangeeta Agarwal who teaches Science and Chemistry, Debra Munoz who teaches Science, Biology, and Spanish, and Scott Haseltine who teaches U.S. History, Government, World History, and World Geography. Coming back this year after being in Iraq this past year, is Coach Kyle Cayce. He just got back to the States about two weeks ago and has taken a short leave to get things in order before returning to work at the school.

Jr./Sr. High teachers returning from last year are Charlotte Pate (Theater Arts and English), husband and wife team Bill and Cindy Lutrell (Tech Applications, Intro. to Business, & sev- eral more advanced Business courses and Math & Algebra respectively), Jan Stevens (Pre-Calculus and Geometry), Athletic Director Mike Heckathorn (Athletics and History), Wesley Henson (several Ag classes), Coach Tommy Tritz (Athletics and P.E. for both the Elementary and Jr./Sr. High), Coach Ronnie Dunn (Special Ed, Health, and Athletics), and Coach Steve Davis (Iss and Athletics).

On the Elementary side of the campus, returning teachers are Jenny Agapiou (Pre-K), Claudia Larkin (Kindergarten), Kim Scoggin (1st grade), Tina Rayborn (4th grade), Rose Henson (5th grade), and Susan Irons (6th grade). O.I.S.D. opened a new position this year for an Elementary Reading teacher. Patricia Hadley was hired to fill the position and will work with the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Also among the new teachers is 2nd grade teacher, Stephanie Lucio who graduated from Oakwood in 2005 and returned for her very first teaching position. She is also the Lady Panthers Volley Ball Head Coach. Also returning, is Dianna Lancaster. She was a teacher back in the 2005- 2006 school year.
