Lady Bison post wins

Buffalo matched up with two former district opponents last week, and secured wins over both foes. The Lady Bison defeated Grapeland 25- 20, 25-20, 19-25, 25- 23 on Tuesday, and then outlasted Teague 21-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-18, 15-9 on Friday.

Van’Go’photo Jordyn Briscoe and Kaila Grissett combined for nineteen kills in the Grapeland match. Meredith Shaw nailed six, and Kylan Ferguson hammered five. Desiree Worthy landed four while Tristan Brewer and Erica Jones contributed two and one, respectively. Shaw served for thirteen points, including four aces. Grissett and Trahan each served twelve points, and three aces. Karlee Ferguson served three aces on the way to scoring five points. Briscoe and Kylen Ferguson served four points each. Lindsey McGill added one service point.

Trahan led the team in assists with eighteen. Kylan Ferguson dished eight assists, and Shaw added one. Libero McGill racked up twenty digs in the match. Briscoe and Grissett combined for twenty three. Briscoe, Worthy and Kylan Ferguson came up with one block each.

Friday was one of the best displays of volleyball in recent Buffalo history. Teague always provides a challenge, and the 2009 match up was no disappointment. The Lady Lions, with the help of recent Lady Bison Shanequae Mims, won the first set 21-25. Buffalo responded with a 25-20 victory. Teague claimed the third set 22-25. The Lady Bison came through in the fourth set 25-18 to force a fifth set tie-breaker. Teague won the serve, and scored the first point. Shaw landed a kill to break serve, and then served an ace and two service points to give Buffalo a 4-1 advantage. The two teams exchanged rally points through four rotations to move to 8-5. Worthy scored a block, and Briscoe nailed two kills through the stretch. Worthy pounced on an over play for point ten and returned serve to the Lady Bison with another kill for point eleven. Shaw returned to the service line and served out the match. Teague struggled to control the lefty’s heat, and Worthy took full advantage of the over plays.

Briscoe recorded twelve kills in the match, and Grissett nailed ten. Worthy pounded eight, including four in the final five points of the match. Shaw notched six kills while Kylan Ferguson and Karlee Ferguson added two each. Trahan dished fourteen assists for the Lady Bison. Kylan Ferguson distributed nine, and Worthy tallied two. Grissett added one.

Grissett and McGill provided fifteen digs each while Briscoe contributed eleven. Shaw and Karlee Ferguson defended their serves with a combined eight digs. The Lady Bison did their most damage with Shaw and Karlee Ferguson on the service line. Shaw scored twentyseven service points with six aces, and Karlee Ferguson scored twenty-one with one ace. Grissett served for seven points and two aces. Briscoe and Trahan served for five points each. Kylan Ferguson served for three points.
