Temperatures hovered near the century mark Thursday afternoon when the BHS football teams hosted the Franklin Lions, state-ranked in the pre-season polls, in scrimmage action. Both the Varsity and sub-varsity Bison proved that they could hang in there with a talented opponent that boasted both size and numbers. More ... Buffalo matched up with two former district opponents last week, and secured wins over both foes. The Lady Bison defeated Grapeland 25- 20, 25-20, 19-25, 25- 23 on Tuesday, and then outlasted Teague 21-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-18, 15-9 on Friday. More ... Elkhart hosted one of the most evenly matched tournaments around last weekend. Every match up was competitive with all eight teams capable of defeating anyone there. Thursday’s pool play seeded the tournament for Saturday. The Lady Bison ran out of gas over the course of the long day, and dropped the third place game to Crockett. Buffalo defeated Grapeland and Teague at Bison gym before competing in the Teague tournament on Saturday. The Lady Bison fell to Teague in the opening round of the tournament and dropped a close one to Mexia. Buffalo defeated Hillsboro in the consolation round. More ... The ninth grade Lady Bison won four out of five matches last week, including the third place contest at the Teague Tournament on Saturday. The Leon Cougars have shown steady improvement in scrimmages against Trinity and Grapeland. The Cougars had a 3-1 advantage against the Sandies on August 21. This was a controlled scrimmage with the offense having the ball a set number of plays then the defense took the field. More ... August 20 - Game of the Day for the 9-hole gals was "ACE". We had Seven gals from the 9-hole group participate and the ACE for the Month was won by Pat Mossman shooting a 34. Garlyn Person came in 1st after the ACE with a 35, and Betty Von Bieberstein also shot a 35. Scorecard playoff put her in 2nd. Lorna Webb and Betty Von Bieberstein both had Low Putts for the day (14 putts). More ... The lady Cougars traveled to Groesbeck on August 18th and came away with a 25-14, 25-23, and 25-17 three game sweep against the Lady Goats. The Oakwood Lady Panthers were double booked this weekend. They had to make a choice between the Elkhart and Leon tournaments. The Leon roster got to them first so, Head Coach Stephanie Lucio decided to take the Lady Panthers to meet their challenge. The Lady Panthers lost to Fairfield in their first game (20-25 & 14-25). More ... Fans of the Buffalo Bison and Lady Bison turned out in droves for the annual “Meet the Bison” celebration hosted by the Bison Booster Club. This year’s MTB started at Brewer Field with a hot dog supper and featured homemade ice cream at the bargain price of $1/cup. More ... The Centerville Lady Tigers defeated the Leon Lady Cougars 25-18, 18-25, and 25-16 in the championship game on August 22 to win the Cougars annual volleyball tournament. The Tigers won the first game 25-18 but the Cougars won the second game by the identical score to force a third and deciding game which the Tigers won 25-16. More ... Coach Kyle was pleased with the effort the Tigers put forth against Normangee in a controlled scrimmage on August 21st.
