Lady Bison Drop Opening Matches

MEET THE BISON this Monday night, August 24th at 6:00 p.m. at the BHS gym

The Lady Bison bit off more than they could chew last Tuesday when they took on AAAA Conroe Caney Creek for the season opener. All three levels of Lady Bison took it on the chin although the varsity club did win Game Two and competed well in the other three matches.

The ninth grade Lady Bison, along with some help of two sophomore middle blockers, dropped a 25-13, 25-13 contest to the Lady Panthers. Kylen Armstrong served for three points to lead the Lady Bison. Raven Lott, Erin Trahan, and Hannah Wilson served for one point each.

“Our freshman numbers are slim right now, but we are expecting a few others to report which will allow us to field a freshman squad,” said head coach Lori Shaw.

The junior varsity team had a rough time as well, falling 25-12, 25-10. Service points were hard to come by as the Lady Panthers defense was solid. Laken McCabe led the Lady Bison with three points. Heather Sigert and Raven Lott served for two points, and Reagan Read added one.

The Varsity Lady Bison lost the first match 15-25, but answered with a 25-16 win. The third match was a bit of a debacle due to a bookkeeping technicality. Since the libero was not designated prior to the start of the third contest, Buffalo could not use a libero in that match. The Lady Bison improvised, and learned a lesson well. In spite of the potential disaster, Buffalo threatened before falling 21- 25. The final game went to the Lady Panthers 18-25.

Senior cousins Brooke Trahan and Kaila Grissett led the team in serving with twelve and eleven points, respectively. Karlee Ferguson and Meredith Shaw served for nine and six. Jordyn Briscoe served for three points and Erica Jones added two. Offensively, Briscoe came through with ten kills and Grissett nailed seven. Worthy provided three, and Karlee Ferguson, Shaw and Jones landed one each. Briscoe and Grissett combined for seventeen digs. Libero Lindsey McGill added six. Trahan led the team in assists with eleven. Kylan Ferguson contributed seven and Kelsey Canady added two.

“When you get to the AAAA level, you have a much larger pool to choose from. Caney Creek cut fifteen girls after the first week which is more than we have out for our freshmen or junior varsity teams,” commented Coach Shaw. “I was proud that the girls competed throughout the games even though they were playing girls who are committed to volleyball year round.”
