Donald Allen “Don” Oliver

Funeral services for Donald Allen Oliver, age 59, of Buffalo were held 2 pm, Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Buffalo. Rev. Larry Morris officiated the service and burial was in the North Creek Cemetery.

Donald Allen Oliver was born on November 14, 1949 in Houston, Texas to Louis W. and Marjorie (Miller) Oliver. Don Oliver, a beloved son, husband, father, brother, friend, coach, music minister, mason, and pilot passed away on Monday morning August 10th after a short battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, his daughter, Carmen Dee Oliver; his brothers, Bobby Grant Oliver and James Bryan Oliver.

Don was a 1967 graduate of Buffalo High School. After graduation, he attended Stephen F. Austin for several years before entering the Army. He was a Viet Nam War Veteran. Don then worked at a bank in Houston and Central Freight Lines in Waco for several years before his lengthy employment at Nucor. After numerous years at Nucor, Don attended Sam Houston State University where He majored in Computer Science. After graduating in 1995, he began teaching and coaching at Oakwood ISD.

After his stint at Oakwood, He joined the staff at Cayuga ISD and Teague ISD before coming to Buffalo ISD in 2002. He had plans of returning to school to teach again this year! He will be missed !

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Hanida Oliver of Buffalo; mother, Marjorie Oliver of Buffalo, daughters, Jill Henson and husband, Oscar of Buffalo, Jami Gainey and husband, Nick of Mesquite; grandchildren, Wesley and Abigail Henson of Buffalo; brother, Steve Oliver and wife, Regina, of Buffalo, and several nieces & nephews.

The pallbearers were Oscar Henson, Nick Gainey, Steve Oliver, Louis Oliver, Joe Bob Oliver, Brent Miller, and Tony Miller. The honorary pallbearers were Dean Richmond, Nick Samford, Dennis Hartley, Gene Pruitt, Joe Brewer, Arliss Russell, Paul Cooksey, Richard Dalghrin,

Buddy Spikes, Glen Robinson, Otis Junior Brewer,

David Kale, James Anders, Will Kent, Billy Bangs, Ralph Reed, and Robert Mims.

It is requested that any memorials be made to the “Mission Fund at Bethel Baptist Church,” c/o Bethel Baptist Church, P.O. Box 466, Buffalo, Texas 75831.

Funeral services were under the direction of Walters Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo.
