NRG photo JEWETT, TX; August 12, 2009—The Limestone Project Employees Fund (LPEF) has donated more than $2 million to local charities since being established in 1986. The fund is financed by contributions from Limestone Electrical Generating Station employees, matching donations from NRG Energy, Inc.’s (NYSE: NRG) Global Giving fund and the NRG Texas’ endowment fund.

“Our employees are members of this community and are very proud of how we have come together to help meet the needs of our neighbors,” said Gary Mechler, Limestone Station’s General Manager. “We are very thankful to the local community for the tremendous support they have given us and appreciate the ability to return that support with our contributions.”

The Limestone Fund has helped local fire departments, libraries, and community groups who provide food boxes to needy families. Limestone employees have also sent care packages for our troops overseas as well as special gifts to local families including clothing and toys for the holidays.

“Through the years our employees have given generously to this cause and we are proud to see the many organizations and families that have benefited from our efforts,” said Travis Miller, LPEF board president. “Our goal is to make a positive impact in the lives of others in our community. We are very proud of this group’s ability to raise funds and distribute them for the benefit of our neighbors.”

The LPEF is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service and the State of Texas as a non-profit entity.
