Don Oliver Buffalo resident Don Oliver, age 59, passed away during the early hours of Monday, August 10, losing a battle with cancer. Don is survived by his beloved wife, Hanida, his mother Majorie Oliver of Buffalo, his brother Steve Oliver of Buffalo, daughters Jill Henson (and husband Oscar) of Buffalo and Jami Gainey (and husband Nick) of Mesquite, and by two grandchildren, Wesley and Abigail Henson of Buffalo. Don was preceded in death by a daughter, Carmen, his father Louis Oliver, and two brothers Brian and Bobbie. Don was a teacher at Buffalo High School, where he taught world georgraphy, ESL and technology classes, and he also taught girls athletics at the junior high and coached in the girls’ program at BISD. He has also taught and coached at Oakwood in the past. Don and Hanida did almost everything together. Don also loved coaching, and riding his motorcycle. His latest passion was flying. About two years ago he began to work on getting his pilot’s license, but the process was delayed by health problems when he went through his first bout with cancer in 2008. After treatments were completed, Don continued his training. He got his private pilot’s license just two days before learning that the agressive cancer had returned. Visitation is scheduled for 2 pm until 8 pm on Tuesday, August 10 at Bethel Baptist Church. The family will be present from 6 pm until 8 pm. Services will be Wednesday at 2:00 at Bethel, followed by interment at North Creek Cemetery.
