City wide picnic at First Baptist Church Centerville
      First Baptist Church Centerville hosted a city wide picnic Saturday, August 1, in the Church Fellowship Hall. The fun began early in the day with indoor games and cake walks then later the water slide and bounce house attracted kids of all ages.

Massive chemical fire leads to evacuation in Bryan area
      Bryan/College Station is a popular stomping ground for Leon County residents, representing our nearest shopping mall, movie theaters, selection of restaurants, etc. We were watching with interest, therefore, when a toxic blaze at a fertilizer plant near Bryan spawned a mass evacuation of the area last Thursday, July 30.

South African Missionary visits Oakwood
      At a leadership conference in Dallas, Natessa Jacobs met Pastor Larry Allen of Oakwood. The two formed a fast bond and she eagerly accepted an invitation to come to Oakwood to speak at several churches around Oakwood. People are used to missionaries going to Africa from the U.S. but, a missionary from South Africa to Oakwood, Texas...that puts a whole new spin on things!

Science skills grow at Camp Invention
      Curiosity may have killed a cat, but it is a trait which BISD is encouraging in their students. Rather than lounging in front of their video games last week, 51 area children took advantage of a week-long opportunity to nurture their curiosity, creativity and a love for science at Camp Invention.
