Three local junior high students honed their basketball skills last week at the 2009 Mark Turgeon Texas A&M Basketball Camp. Brock Brown, Caleb Eagans and Brandon Bilodeau, all members of the Leon Junior High School basketball team, attended the July 22-25 camp held at G. Rollie White on the A&M campus. Members of the A&M coaching staff and current Aggie players instructed the youngsters on both offensive and defensive skills, and the kids also got to experience campus life, staying in an Aggie dorm during the four-day camp.
Thirteen-year-old Eagans, who started the camp in the “Pack Ten” group with other 12-13-year-olds, was moved up to the 14-16 age group, “Big Twelve” on the second day of camp. On the final day of camp, Caleb was selected Best Defensive Player in that group. During the presentation of his trophy, an A&M assistant coach noted, “They had the height advantage, but Caleb had the quickness.”
The participating students were also named Honorary Aggies.
