Martha A. Cole

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha A. Cole, 70, were held on Monday, July 27, 2009 at 10:00a.m. at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Jewett. Interment followed the services at Marquez Cemetery.

Mrs. Cole passed from this earth on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the age of 70. She was at her home on Lake Limestone completing her journey and battle against cancer. Martha was born on September 22, 1938 in Indio, California. She spent the majority of her childhood in central Texas. She met her husband of 50 years, Virgil Ralph Cole Jr., at Texas A&I University and they were married on May 24th, 1959. They lived several places throughout their married life, but eventually settled in the Houston area. Martha was a high school math teacher for thirty years as well as school principal until her retirement. But, she was so much more to those who knew and loved her. She was a beloved sister in-law, aunt, cousin, and niece. She was a photographer, an artist, a gentle loving spirit and an inspiration. She loved crafts, her dogs, her church, her family and God.

Martha is survived by her husband, Ralph Cole of Lake Limestone; her daughter Vanessa R. Cole, of Dallas; younger sisters Judy Grounds of Granbury; Brenda Smith of Overland Park, KS and Linda Baker of Atlanta, GA., brothers and sisters-in law, several nieces , nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dwindolyn (Crouch) Davis and her father, James A. Davis, Jr.

Memorials can be made in her honor to the M.D. Anderson Children’s Art Project, http://www.childrensartproject. org.

Grace brought her here and let her stay for just a little while,

No matter who she met or touched, she always left a smile.

Taken from us all too soon, from this earth she had to part,

So sweet, so dear and oh so brave, she will live forever in our hearts.
