July 14-16th the council members from each 4-H club had an opportunity to join Texas Agrilife Extension Agency for an exciting week in New Braunfels, TX. The youth were broken into groups and did team activities including making a grocery list for a meal they had to prepare and cook, and grocery shopping for those items. The second day the youth did team building on the Guadalupe! Es- corted by two tour guides, Scuba and Hippie, and Staff/ Chaperones, Tommy Neyland, Wendy Neyland, Cayla Christianson, Laura Huebinger, and Ruth Spillman, everyone had a blast. Some of the activities done on the river were team races and raft basketball. The whole float was based on team building that was educational and exciting. Mrs. Laura Huebinger also did a presentation over public speaking in which each council member had to participate. The retreat ended with a trip to the State Capital. Judge Byron Ryder and Russell Devorsky took the 4-H group on a VIP tour of the capital! The group met with Commissioner Todd Staples and had a presentation by the General Land Office. Overall the trip was a success. The youth left with a new outlook and hopefully will use this training for future endeavors!
